    The Falcon 4 represents twenty years of cumulative refinement of the most popular and successful glider in Wills Wing’s history. Since 1994, the Falcon series of gliders have represented the most accessible, stress-free soaring performance available in hang gliding, and have helped to introduce an entire generation of new pilots to the sport. What’s New Updates on the Falcon 4 include a new sail cut and new sail panel layout, improved lateral stability at higher speeds and under aero tow conditions, and the option for the glider to be built with a Litestream Control bar. The Falcon 4 comes standard with an airframe that breaks down to shipping length, but is not short-packable into the 2 meter length. The short-packable airframe is an available option on the Falcon 4. The 195 size features an extra batten for improved airfoil definition, and, on the standard airframe, a smaller diameter crossbar for reduced drag and improved performance. Aerodynamic Refinements The most significant aerodynamic revisions to the Sport 3 are a redesigned sail and stability system that together provide for a tighter-flatter sail and allow for lower sprog settings. This lower twist sail both significantly improves high speed performance and reduces pitch pressures at high speed.     Wills Wing T2/T2C

    The Wills Wing T2 is a highly refined high performance, competition class glider featuring a long list of hardware upgrades and improvements in the sail design. The result is an extraordinary combination of superb handling qualities and unsurpassed performance built on a platform of exceptional quality. The T2 features a robust yet light-weight carbon fiber crossbar, a wide-range VG system with 24:1 reduction for effortless activation, and a highly rigid sprog stability system with compensating inboard sprogs. The sail is clean and flat, with a very high percentage of double surface and extremely low twist. Roll pressures are light and the roll rate is quick, and yet the glider is stable on tow, offers excellent directional tracking, and is easy to land. The exceptional sink rate and climb performance allow for an expansion in the upper end of the weight range, allowing a pilot in the transition range between sizes to step down a size, and pick up further enhancements in glide performance at speed. For serious recreational and cross country pilots, or for anyone with advanced skills looking for the highest levels of flex wing performance at a surprisingly affordable price, the T2 is configurable with a long list of options, including all mylar top surface sail with special UV resistant film, carbon-kevlar leading edge pocket inserts, standard Slipstream2 or Litestream control bar downtubes, a specially designed carbon streamlined basetube or the standard aluminum streamlined basetube, and streamlined control bar basetube wheels set (aluminum basetube only). The ultralight and extra stiff 12mm battens, and customer choice of colors are now included for the T2 without additional charge. The Wills Wing T2C is the full competition version of the T2, and includes carbon rear leading edges and carbon sprogs in addition to other options available on the T2: all mylar top surface sail with special “UV-film” laminate sail material standard with Technora and Carbon laminate optional, carbon-kevlar leading edge pocket inserts, and an ergonomically-designed carbon streamlined basetube. (Pilots may “de-select” options if they choose to, for example by requesting an aluminum speedbar basetube instead of the carbon basetube, but the T2C glider price is not reduced for any included equipment that is deselected. The carbon rear leading edges and carbon sprogs are standard on, and only available on, the T2C, so a pilot who does not desire the carbon rear leading edges and sprogs should order the T2, and add options as desired from there.) The T2C features the same superb handling qualities as the T2. In addition, the increased stiffness provided by the carbon components allows for lower twist and a commensurate boost in high-speed performance to match or exceed the most exotic factory works gliders you will compete against.     Wills Wing U2/U2C

    The U2 is a very high performance glider with handling characteristics suitable for pilots with intermediate and higher levels of skills and experience. The U2 is available in two sizes – 160 and 145. The U2 was conceived as a very light-weight glider with performance approaching that of the much heavier, more expensive, and more challenging competition class wings. There are no reflex bridles – all stability systems are internal – so cable drag is minimized. Beginning with the 2009 model year, all lower cables are 3/32 1×19 un-coated, for additional drag reduction. Standard on the U2 is the new Litestream control bar, a Slipstream style, fully streamlined bar that uses the same streamlined aluminum basetube as the Slipstream bar, but with shorter chord, easier to grip, lighter weight Litestream downtubes. Specially machined, fully streamlined aluminum corner fittings complete the Litestream package, which offers a more than 95% reduction in drag as compared to a regular AT-style streamlined control bar with a round basetube. The U2 features a curved tip planform and sports an exceptionally clean sail with 205MT leading edge and 205MT trailing edge offered as standard equipment, or available upgrades to UV-film laminated sailcloth. An extended bottom surface in the root cleanly fairs in the hang loop. For the 2009 model year, the U2 features an upgraded and improved sail cut that results in improved performance and even better handling characteristics. An upgrade to an all Mylar top surface is also an available option for 2009. In the air, at the looser VG settings, the U2 offers, light, quick response coupled with forgiving handling characteristics. With the VG on, the gliding range at speed expands dramatically, and the glider tracks straight and true. The U2 uses a weight- and cost-saving conventional VG system. The result is an exceptional performance package that is extraordinarily accessible. The landing characteristics are very straightforward; handling is damped and predictable on approach, the flare window is broad and flare authority is ample. Litestream Compatible Round Speedbar Basetube Option We are now offering the option of a round speedbar basetube on the U2. This option is to address the requests of pilots who prefer the grip of a round basetube for comfort reasons, and pilots who want to be able to mount larger diameter wheels on a Litestream control bar. The photo shows the Litestream round speedbar mounted to a Sport 2, with Hall Wheels (not included) installed. We also have available VG compatible hubs for the larger 8 inch diameter Finsterwalder pneumatic wheels that allow them to be mounted on the Litestream round speedbar. Pilots should expect approximately 1/2 point in degradation of L/D by going to the round basetube over the streamlined basetube. The Litestream compatible round speedbar is a no extra cost option when requested on any new glider order.

    Wills Wings Alpha

    The Alpha is a new model that looks and flies like a lower aspect ratio Falcon (less wing span, more area), and is intended for flight schools and for pilots who value light weight, convenience, slow flying and easy take-off and landing above other performance attributes. The Alpha 180 has about the same span as a Falcon 4 145 but more area than a Falcon 4 170. The Alpha 210 has about the same span as a Falcon 4 170, but more area than a Falcon 4 195. The Alpha 180 uses the same F3-60 size control bar as the Falcon 4 145, and the Alpha 210 uses a new Falcon 3 64 control bar size between that of the Falcon 4 170 and Falcon 4 195. The Alphas fly very slowly, and are very docile and easy in handling, take-off and landing, and yet they have exceptionally good soaring performance – better in fact in very light lift and small thermals than a Falcon. Unlike the Condor, the Alpha is a fully airworthy, utility class glider, and can be flown in any reasonable flying conditions, and purchased by new students or experienced pilots. The Alpha is a better first purchase glider for most new pilots than a Falcon, and almost as easy for first training flights as a Condor. In some ways the Alphas are easier for students than the Condor, because they are smaller gliders, and therefore easier to ground handle if there is wind. The Alpha’s launching speed is not quite as slow as the Condor 330, but it is noticeably slower than a Falcon. How capable is the Alpha?
